Since it was founded in 1984, Virgin Atlantic has become Britain’s second largest airline serving the world’s major cities.
With an annual total energy spend of over £1m, Virgin Atlantic sought to work with an energy partner that could support them in procuring gas and electricity for their sites throughout the UK.
Virgin Atlantic also needed a consultant that could offer additional energy support services including ongoing assistance in meeting the requirements of the CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme and EPBD certification legislation.
E&CM worked closely with Virgin Atlantic to implement a fixed purchasing strategy providing budget certainty and ensuring all elements of pricing, including third party charges were outlined prior to contract agreement. E&CM also continue to work closely with the utilities team at Virgin Atlantic to support their yearly budgeting requirements.
A detailed CRC Risk and Opportunities assessment explored the impact that the CRC Scheme would have on Virgin Atlantic’s business operations.
E&CM supported Virgin Atlantic in putting into operation Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) equipment and assisting them in the preparation for energy accreditation.
Staff training sessions were also scheduled for Virgin Atlantic employees in order to increase energy awareness within the organisation and encourage efficiency in key areas of the business.
E&CM were also able to support Virgin Atlantic with their Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) as required under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, providing the team with bespoke reports that detailed the ratings they would expect to receive if certain recommendations were implemented.
Working with E&CM, Virgin Atlantic were able to:
- Fix energy prices and mitigate risk around potential rises in the energy markets by locking in prices at a competitive rate.
- Remain compliant providing peace of mind.
- Increase energy awareness throughout the organisation through the implementation of staff training sessions.
